Continental 0100301 Trail King UST Tubeless 26 x 2.4 Foldable MTB Tire with Black Chili and Apex touts it's own special blend of extra soft and tacky Black Chili compound. This special compound shreds the wet rocks, roots and mud like no Continental compound ever before. And unlike other soft compounds that go away quicker than the wind, this sticky one lasts. The sidewalls are reinforced with Conti's proprietary Apex design. Apex is a unique sidewall treatment that places additional material just above the bead where it helps to reduce pinch-flatting, while also stiffening the sidewall to improve control under hard-cornering and in off-chamber sections. The King is stout with an oversized casing and puts a massive footprint to the ground for phenomenal control. The tire and rim form an airtight chamber. A tube is not necessary and pinchflats not possible anymore. Specs: Weight - 1100 grams; Recommended PSI - 45; Maximum PSI - 58; PU - 5.

Either of these tires is an awesome purchase. The trail king hooks up well in sandy, muddy, rocky...what ever you can throw at it. It is a great solid tire. Grips well in the corners. I added these tires at the beginning of the race season, however rain keeps messing things up. Took them to Tahoe for some technical rides with a combination of hard rocks and loose dirt. The tires were outstanding. They really hooked up well on the loose dirt and held up great with a major beating on the rocks. I did have one pinch flat when running about 30 psi and dropping a couple of feet onto a sharp edge of granite at about 15 mph. No damage to the tire, just the hassle of replacing the tube while riders I've been passing catch up. I have ridden it in a variety of conditions so far in the Montana spring from loose gravel, hard pack, mud, snow, rocks and wet roots. The only condition that gave it any trouble was a patch of wet roots (but this was probably my fault for riding at 10:30pm in the rain and thinking that I would get traction with a 45 degree side grade and then realized my mistake and tried to brake as I was going over it). Every other condition has been great with this tire. I have the 2.4 with black chili up front and a 2.2 in the back with out it. The black chili really works great and is a noticeable difference from the other version. I like the combination of the two on my bike. |
