Great Price-- Fine Cassette (except for Weight Weenies, maybe :) ), By This review is from: Shimano Deore SLX 9 Speed Mountain Bike Cassette - CS-HG61 (Misc.) I bought this as part of some kit to swap out my old 8 speed gear for some 9 speed. I'd thrown a bike together with some recycled parts along with some new and really didn't like the selection of gears on the old 8 speed cassette. After shopping around for some now-vanishing 8 speed cassettes (basically, the jump between gears 3 and 4 was so large as to make all 8 gears useless. If I was in 4 and needed a little shorter gearing, 3 would leave me spinning way faster and slowing down. Going the other way, 3 was too tall. I ended up having to shuffle chainrings and cogs when I should have had plenty of gearing left).With few or no options left, I decided to upgrade to 9 speed. I'd already put on a nice low-normal XTR rear der (not that the derailleur would have needed to be changed for an 8 - 9 speed swap). But because I'd have to be changing out so many parts (the shifters I had came from a Trek 3900 and were brake & shifter combos) I didn't want to spring for an XT cassette... Read more |
