Maxxis CrossMark UST Mountain Bike Tire (Folding 70a, 26x2.1) Reviews
![]() By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Maxxis CrossMark UST Mountain Bike Tire (Sports) Purchased this tire for a second bike since I use it on my other bike. I ride a Trek Top Fuel WSD and it is a good replacement for the very thin tire that came with the bike, which was fast but didn't have much for grip and flats happened too often. Tubeless is a must if you are going to be racing offroad I think and this tire is easy to put on and holds up well when you use sealant to avoid flats. This tread pattern roles fast and has good grip on corners since we mix gravel roads in with single track you need both and this works great for that. ![]() By PhilH (Texas, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Maxxis CrossMark UST Mountain Bike Tire (Sports) I've runs several of these on my Cannondale Rush 3 which came stock with the CrossMark. The tire is fast and as another reviewer points out, loses grip when cornering, but the break is gradual, allowing you to unweight before the washout. I replaced the rear with a Maxxis Ignitor UST to get better climbing traction in loose conditions, but stayed with the CrossMark in the front. Overall, the CrossMark is a relatively tough, easy rolling tire and responds well to using Stans tire sealant. ![]() Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Maxxis CrossMark UST Mountain Bike Tire (Sports) I've been riding these front and rear for about a year and a half. If you're looking for an exceptionally fast, easy rolling tire, this is it. It really excels on hardpack trails. I find I can run a gear or two higher (and much faster) with the same amount of effort compared to the knobbier tires I previously ran. With the low knobs, it's not a great tire in slick/muddy conditions, though it's a better in that regard than I expected. I run the tubeless version, which allows lower air pressure which is a benefit in climbing and slick conditions when the tire would otherwise be compromised because of the very short knobs. After hundreds of miles on them, I've never had a flat, but I do put Stan's sealant in them (contrary to the mfr's recommendation, which voids any warranty). They do slip a little sometimes when cornering fast, but to me it seems that the slip is predictable, without a sudden wash-out. I think they're a great cross country tire overall, as long as you don't ride a lot... Read more |
